The mid-size 2025 Ford Ranger is a capable pickup that blurs the boundaries between work vehicle and daily driver. It offers four trims for drivers to choose from: XL, XLT, Lariat, and Raptor. Each serves different needs, so let’s break down each trim.

XL

The base XL trim is equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the most efficient of the bunch, achieving 22 MPG in the city and up to 25 MPG on the highway in rear-wheel drive models. XL is the only trim in the lineup that offers a SuperCab setup with a 6-foot bed, which seats up to 6 passengers but has a smaller rear seating area and two smaller rear doors.

XL models have necessities for everyday driving, including cloth seats, power locks and windows, and an 8-way manually adjustable driver’s seat. There’s additional storage space found under the rear seats.

XLT

While XLT models come standard with the four-cylinder engine, they can also be fashioned with a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 that generates 315 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Either engine option can tow up to 7,500 pounds when properly equipped.

The trim adds several refinements to the cabin and exterior. The front seats are power adjustable and the front area offers a wireless charging pad and 120V outlets. The side mirrors are heated and power-folding, and there are multiple appearance packages that can be added to enhance the styling.

Lariat

Lariat models use the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine, with the V6 remaining as an optional upgrade. Lariat variants upgrade to 18-inch wheels over the standard 17-inch wheels in the other trims. You’ll also find a power-sliding rear window and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The infotainment system is upgraded to a 12-inch display with an integrated navigation system, Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone connectivity. The audio system also upgrades from a 6-speaker stereo to a 10-speaker premium B&O system.

Raptor

Raptor variants are the only ones to be equipped with a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine. This proficient powerplant delivers 405 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The Raptor is geared towards off-road enthusiasts, with full-time 4WD, front and rear e-lockers, FOX shocks, and 10.7 inches of ground clearance.

Lighting is enhanced for optimal visibility, with LED projector headlights and bed lighting. The interior shares the Lariat’s leather seating, heated steering wheel, audio system, and 12-inch infotainment display.
