Trim Options at Your Ford Dealership

In 2025, the Ford F-150 Lightning is available in four trim levels: XLT, Flash, LARIAT, and Platinum. The Platinum trim boasts more interior luxuries, extended battery range, and Ford’s Max Trailer tow package. The F-150 Lightning is Ford’s EV truck, while the F-150 is a gas-powered truck that’s also available as a hybrid.

The Ford F-150 gas-powered trucks are available in eight different trim levels, including the powerful Raptor model that can be upgraded with a 5.2L supercharged V8 engine. The eight trim options are:

  • XL
  • STX
  • XLT
  • TREMOR
  • LARIAT
  • King Ranch
  • Platinum
  • Raptor

Engine or Motor Type

The Lightning is an electric truck with a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The base trim comes standard with a standard range battery delivering an EPA-estimated range of 240 miles, up to 452 horsepower, and 775 lb-ft of torque. The gas-powered F-150 base trim comes standard with a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine delivering 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

The engine of the Ford F-150 delivers a maximum conventional towing of 13,500 pounds and a maximum payload of 2,445 pounds for the base trim. The electric Lightning’s base model tows less at 10,000 pounds with a maximum payload of 2,000 pounds.

Handling Technologies

Both trucks offer selectable drive modes but differ in the modes available. The Lightning comes in four modes: Normal, Sport, Two/Haul, or Off-road. The gas truck F-150 comes standard with six: Normal, ECO, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery, and Trail. You can also upgrade to add Deep Snow/Sand, and – for 4×4 models – Mud/Rut modes.

Both trucks also have power rack-and-pinion steering and trailer sway control, but the Lightning has added standard technologies for better handling, including:

  • 4×4 body style
  • One pedal driving mode
  • Rear eLocking axle
  • Independent rear suspension
  • Regenerative braking system

Comfort and Convenience

The electric and gas-powered F-150 comes standard with interior comforts and assistance technologies to make driving smoother. While the features of both base trims are similar, the Lightning has added trailer-specific tech, such as trailer reverse guidance, Pro Trailer hitch assist, and Pro Trailer backup assist. The entertainment systems connected to the 12-inch touchscreen also differ, with the Lightning coming standard with FordPass Connect 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspots and the gas-powered F-150 standard with 5G LTE Wi-Fi hotspots.

Convenience technologies the same between both models include:

  • 12-inch digital productivity screen
  • AM/FM stereo
  • Cruis control
  • Pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking
  • Post-collision braking
  • Fade-to-off interior lighting
  • Lane-keeping system
  • Reverse sensing system
